PSC is a tertiary educational institution focused on providing a high-quality teaching and learning experience centrally located within the Melbourne Arts Precinct.

The institution offers students a learning experience that emphasises intellectual inquiry and reflection on practice, and a learning environment in which they can explore and develop their capacity to be citizens, visual communications and photographers.

Design by Bird was asked to design an architectural signage solution that would help profile their address and create solutions that would align to the local environment. Auditing the site, Design by Bird noticed the different audiences that entered the back lane entrance versus the front main street doorway, students favouring the back entrance amongst the inner city graffiti and brightly coloured tagging, the front entrance utilised by general public and teachers.

Using this difference as inspiration, two localised solutions were presented to fit the facia at each entrance. The back entrance uses stencils to remove the temptation for local artists to make their mark on expensive signage installs. The front used a more corporate solution to sit comfortably amongst the neighbours.
